STANDING

AS A PPC

Become A Politician With Us Its Easy !

  • ANYONE LEGALLY ELIGIBLE CAN STAND FOR THIS PARTY — so the young, the old, the experienced politician and the novice can all get involved in formal politics on behalf of The Fair Britannia Party. [ For the full details of the necessary legal conditions that need to be met by candidates in order to be able to stand, please visit the Electoral Commission's website. ]
  • MEMBERSHIP OF OTHER PARTIES — IS NOT A BAR ON STANDING FOR THE FAIR BRITANNIA PARTY. We only ask that our candidates agree to not publicly denigrate the party or deliberately bring this party into disrepute. Anyone doing so will be immediately de-selected.
  • SHY AND RETIRING TYPES — NOW'S YOUR CHANCE! With The Fair Britannia Party, no public speaking, attendance at hustings meetings, phone calling, door-knocking or leafleting is required. A 'name on the ballot paper' role is just fine, for that's all it takes to get the message out, and at the time of the general election, candidates get free Royal Mail delivery of their electoral address (i.e. the party newspaper) to every household in their constituency!
  • ELECTED FAIR BRITANNIA PARTY MPs — If elected, our MPs will be entitled to retain half the standard MP salary, with the remainder going to fund the post-election ballot in their constituency and to further the general work of the party. As per the party's pledge to the electorate, elected Fair Britannia Party MPs WILL BE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES to vote in strict accordance with the wishes of the party winning the post-election ballot for their constituency.
  • Candidates for this party certainly do NOT have to publicly support all of our polices, we only ask that they do not PUBLICLY disagree with them.

The Candidate Selection Procedure For The 2029 General Election

Our candidate selection procedure is designed to allow ANY person who wishes to support The Fair Britannia Party cause to have an equal chance of being selected as a PPC. Although the details of this approach have yet to be finalised, the procedure is likely to be similar to the following :

  • Everybody expressing a willingness to stand as a PPC is added to the shortlist on the relevant constituency page on this website — with all candidates listed in the chronological order in which they applied, so that the first person indicating a willingness to stand as a PPC appears first in the list, the second to apply appears second, and so on.

So be the first to stand, and get your mugshot(!) top of the list for your constituency until near the election ! — YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE YOUR MIND LATER AND WITHDRAW. No worries. And by agreeing to stand early, YOU WILL BE ENCOURAGING MANY OTHERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO STAND IN THEIR CONSTITUENCIES.

  • 5 months prior to the general election (i.e. usually at the beginning of January in a general election year) all PPCs will be contacted and asked to confirm their continued willingness to stand at the upcoming election.
  • All PPCs confirming their continued willingness to stand will then be placed into a RANDOM draw (for transparency, based on the national lottery results for the week in question), so that each potential candidate will have an equal chance of winning selection.
  • Prior to confirmation, official nominated candidates will be required to sign a binding contractual agreement with the party to ALWAYS vote as instructed or else face deselection and a large fine. This draconian measure is a precautionary measure to ensure that the crucial public trust in the party is not eroded by elected Fair Britannia Party MPs not honouring the party pledge to (when a minority in Westminster) ALWAYS vote with the party winning the unofficial post-ballot referendum in their constituency.

PLEASE NOTE : The general procedure outlined above will NOT apply in the home constituencies of senior party personnel and staff — who, in recognition of their service to the party's cause, will be allowed to stand as the PPC in their local constituency regardless of all other considerations.

The Candidate Selection Procedure For Subsequent General Elections

At subsequent elections, as the possibility of the actual election of PPCs to office (hopefully) increases, it will probably become necessary to base candidate selection on additional factors possibly including :

  • the condition that PPCs have made a steady contribution to spreading the work and the word of the party
  • candidate profiles may be matched with the respective demographic profile within each constituency so as to maximise the local Fair Britannia Party vote, and
  • the proportions of women, Under-25s, and racial and cultural minorities within the final PPC list, may be varied (not to pander to or overrepresent racial or cultural minorities, but) so as to more accurately reflect the reality of the demographics of the general UK population.
